I discovered Alpacas by accident as I searched for the perfect business opportunity that I could operate on my own and leave my longtime career in the business world. Alpacas fit the bill for me without question. My only regret is that I didn’t discover them sooner!
Now in my 18th year of breeding Alpacas, I have assembled a herd of pure Peruvians. My herd size is kept to 25 to 35 animals, with new births arriving frequently. Having started out with only three, then adding a couple of bred females several months later, then purchasing an outstanding young black male in Year Three, I’ve come a long way. I have put my herd together using offspring that I created using a variety of good outside herdsires. This approach has allowed me to have very diverse bloodlines and color in my herd.
I run a hands-on operation, and am a full-time breeder. I am a member of the Alpaca Owners Association (AOA), Great Lakes Alpaca Association (GLAA), Fiber Co-op (AFCNA), and have served as Fleece Chairperson at Michigan Alpacafest in 1997 and 1998.
